Summary of the 13th Uddevalla Symposium 2010

Due to that the 50th Anniversary ERSA congress was organized in Jönköping, Sweden, this years' Uddevalla Symposium was organized as a Special ERSA-Uddevalla Symposium session within this ERSA congress.

It took place in August, 19-23, 2010 at Jönköping University, Sweden. The main theme of the ERSA-congress was Sustainable Regional Growth and Development in the Creative Knowledge Economy. Besides the main theme, the congress was open for all issues concerning regional problems. A broad range of topics were listed among the themes for paper sessions. One of them (and the largest) was the 13th Uddevalla Symposium 2010 on "Innovation and Multidimensional Entrepreneurship - Economic, Social and Academic Aspects".

At the Uddevalla Symposium Special Sessions, 40 papers were submitted and all were presented at the congress except three. The papers were subdivided into 9 different subthemes: Multidimensional Entrepreneurship, Regional Innovation Systems, Economic Development, Social Capital, Entrepreneurial Behavior, Rural Development, Industries, Firm Performance & Clusters, and Cities (for a detailed program see the menu to the left).

Due to this years' structure of the symposium to be emerged with the ERSA congress, it is hard to find out how many scholars who participated at the 13th Uddevalla symposium. More than 950 persons attend the ERSA-congress, but about 241 persons participated in the 9 Uddevalla symposium sessions, which gives about 27 persons in average. At one of them 57 people participated. The Uddevalla Session was the largest special session at the ERSA-congress.

As can be read from the program, this session had an interdisciplinary character and provided an opportunity for researchers to discuss their ongoing research that was relevant to clarifying the role of innovation and multidimensional entrepreneurship in the growth and development of regional economies and regional economic systems.

Session Organizers were Professor Kingsley E. Haynes, Dean, School of Public Policy, Ruth D. and John T. Hazel, MD Chair in Public Policy/Eminent Scholar Professor, &

Professor Roger R. Stough, Vice President for Research and Economic Development, Northern Virginia Endowed Chair/Eminent Scholar and Professor of Public Policy, George Mason University, USA

The 50th Anniversary ERSA Conference became a major international event. ERSA is the supranational grouping of national regional science associations across Europe. For further information on ERSA, use the link: www.ersa.org
