Security studies is an interdisciplinary subject and critical for sustainable development. This course provides insights into traditional and emergent security studies perspectives and introduces the student to an overview of how globalisation has changed the character of threats to human, national and transnational security. In addition to theory, several empirical examples of new and non-military threats to security are presented. Attention is also given to how security challenges in a globalised world have changed for governments and other actors responsible for their governance.
